All of the Studentenwerk’s halls of residence rooms are fully furnished. This includes blinds, lighting, a desk, a chair, at least one wardrobe and a shelf, and, of course, a bed with a mattress. The rooms also feature cooking facilities, fridges, or access to shared kitchens. If the room does not have its own bathroom, a shared bathroom is available for your use.
Connections for TVs and the internet are, of course, also available in every room.
In addition, the following are available to you:

Fitness and other sports facilities (not in every building)
Communal areas (not in every building)
Bicycle storage rooms
Music practice rooms (not in every building)
Student clubs (not in every building)
Please remember that you must bring your own duvet, pillows, bed linen, curtains and crockery—in other words, everything that goes on and in the cupboards.

You can apply online for a place in a hall of residence here. After submitting the form, you will receive a confirmation link, which is valid for seven days—please don’t forget to click it! Places in the halls of residence are allocated in the order in which applications are received. Please note that when using the online application form, data is temporarily stored.
Alternatively, you can use the “Application for a Dorm Room” form. Please complete the form in full and send it by email to wohnen-chemnitz@swcz.de or wohnen-zwickau@swcz.de, or by post to the Housing/Technical Department of Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Services.
Even if you have not yet received final admission to a degree programme, you should apply for a dorm room early, as applications are processed in the order they are received! Of course, you have the option to decline the room offer at any time.
The Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Services Organisation will send you confirmation of your application (by email). Around six weeks before your preferred move-in date, you will receive an offer for a place in a hall of residence. This letter will also state the deadline by which you must sign the tenancy agreement with the Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Services Organisation.
Generally speaking, yes! Please check with our colleagues in the Housing Department to see which rooms are available during your internship. However, the cost of the room may differ from the standard student rates.
Chemnitz
With a valid Chemnitz University of Technology user ID, you can log in and use the internet in your room and in the areas outside the halls of residence (Wi-Fi). You can find more information and the registration form on the Chemnitz Student Network website.
The costs are already included in your all-inclusive rent.
Zwickau
With a valid WHZ user ID, you can register with WHZ User Services and update your registration if you move within the Zwickau halls of residence, and use the internet in your room and, in some cases, via Wi-Fi.

Schneeberg
Centre for Communication Technology and Information Processing (ZKI)
Internet access in the hall of residence in Schneeberg is not included in the all-inclusive rent. If you would like to use the connection in your room, please contact the ZKI directly.
Subletting is permitted only with the landlord’s consent. Please check with your account manager to see if consent can be granted.
Yes. Anyone who moves into a flat or a room in Chemnitz, Zwickau or Schneeberg must register in person at the relevant registration office within two weeks. The registration office must also be notified immediately of any moves within the city. Detailed information on registration, change of address and deregistration, as well as the required documents and the relevant authorities, can be found on the websites of the City of Chemnitz, the City of Zwickau and the City of Schneeberg.
The options range from extra-large single rooms to two interconnected rooms, as well as accommodation for mother-and-child shared living arrangements. In Chemnitz, these are located at the halls of residence at Vettersstraße 54, Vettersstraße 64, Vettersstraße 70 and Vettersstraße 72, and in Zwickau at Makarenkostraße 8.
If you are interested, please contact the relevant contact person for the hall of residence! Due to limited capacity, you should register with the relevant customer service representative as early as May/June—especially for the hall of residence places in Zwickau.
The Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Services Organisation has seven accessible flats in Chemnitz. These are located in the hall of residence at Vettersstraße 72. In Zwickau, there are two accessible flats available, located in the hall of residence at Innere Schneeberger Straße 23, Building 2.
In recent years, operating costs for student accommodation have risen steadily due to ongoing price increases, particularly in heating, electricity and cleaning costs. In addition, the proportion of renewable energy has increased dramatically. Further price-related increases are also expected this year. We strive to keep our rent as low as possible despite these ongoing cost increases. As we must operate the student accommodation on a cost-covering basis and cost increases cannot be fully offset by savings, we are obliged to review our rent regularly and adjust it as necessary.

If a problem arises outside of your building manager’s office hours, you can find emergency and breakdown numbers for your hall of residence at the building manager’s office.
Please notify your building manager in person, by telephone, or by using the “Damage Report” form. You can find this form at your building manager’s office. We will then deal with the issue as soon as possible.
Chemnitz

The licence fee for receiving devices is not included in the rent and must therefore be paid by each tenant individually. Since January 2013, the licence fee must be paid for every flat. It does not matter whether receiving devices (TV, radio, etc.) are present in the household or are actually used.
This entitles you to accommodation in the Studentenwerk halls of residence. You can also upload your enrolment certificate online. Please follow our instructions.
You'll find the widest choice in terms of price, facilities and neighbours during the spring (January to March) and summer (June to August). Please contact the staff in the Accommodation Office to enquire about available rooms in your preferred hall of residence.
The notice period for rooms provided by Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Services is two months. Written notice must be given by the third working day of the month; the tenancy then ends on the last day of the following month. In exceptional cases (e.g. withdrawal from the university), early termination of the tenancy is possible; please contact your account manager regarding this.
Please note that standard tenancy agreements stipulate a minimum tenancy term of 12 months. Early termination is possible but requires a severance payment (see: §17 of the tenancy agreement).
Fixed-term rental agreements automatically expire at the end of the term. A notice of termination is therefore not necessary in these cases.

Arrange a preliminary inspection with the building manager (around four weeks before moving out)—during this initial inspection of your room, it will be determined what work needs to be carried out in the room and who will be responsible for it (tenant/landlord)
Arrange a final inspection – please book an appointment for the handover of the room and have the keys and the completed “Checklist for Moving Out” ready
Under the terms of the tenancy agreement, the security deposit will be transferred to the tenant’s designated bank account within three months of the room and keys being handed over in good order. This usually takes place by the end of the second month following the tenant’s move-out.
Students returning to their home country who close their German bank account upon departure will have the security deposit transferred to their account at home (in Europe).
You can obtain the landlord details required for your housing allowance application from the customer service representative assigned to your hall of residence; she will be happy to help you.
If you are disturbed by noise at night, we always recommend starting with a face-to-face conversation. If the situation does not improve, please let your account manager know. The halls of residence in Chemnitz also have a security service that you can call, and of course, you can also call the police.

Since 2013, a broadcasting licence fee has generally been payable for every residence. It does not matter whether reception devices (TV, radio, etc.) are present or used in the household. The fee is 18.36€ per month
If you receive BAföG or vocational training assistance, you can apply for an exemption from the broadcasting licence fee. To do so, you must submit a written application and include the “Broadcasting Licence Fee Exemption” certificate that you received along with your BAföG notification. Exemption applications can be filed retroactively for up to three years. The exemption does not apply to other housemates, unless they are your spouse or registered partner.
If you live at home, your parents pay the fee.
For all other students, including those from abroad, the following applies: A broadcasting licence fee must be paid for each residence. A residence is defined as any structurally self-contained unit suitable for living or sleeping (the presence of a bathroom or kitchen is irrelevant) that can be accessed directly through its own entrance from a stairwell, a foyer, or from the outside—i.e., not through another living space.
If several people live in a shared flat, the broadcasting fee for the household must be paid only once. To do this, an adult must register. The other flatmates should officially deregister under the payer’s fee number.
For rooms in student halls of residence that open onto a generally accessible corridor, the broadcasting licence fee must be paid. They are considered a dwelling—regardless of whether they have their own bathroom or kitchen. If several rooms are separated from a common corridor or stairwell by their own front door and are arranged like a shared flat, only one person needs to be registered for the broadcasting licence fee, and the flatmates can split the cost.
Under certain circumstances, you may also be eligible for a reduction in the broadcasting licence fee, e.g. due to a disability.
