Construction has begun on the modernization of House 1 at Innere Schneeberger Straße 23 in Zwickau. The Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Union is investing around 15 million euros in the comprehensive modernization of the student residence. This measure is being supported with funds from the “Young Housing” funding program, which provides 10 million euros from the federal government and the Free State of Saxony.

After the last students moved out in February and the administration relocated in March, the gutting of the building began. The visible construction work will now follow, including the creation of new apartment layouts and the greening of the façade.

With the start of construction, the Studentenwerk wants to make it clear that the hall of residence will soon offer a modern, sustainable home - with 16 m², fully furnished micro-apartments, two-bed apartments, green balconies and a total of 287 beds, 18 more than before.

The official reopening is planned for the winter semester 2026/27 - when the student club “Null13” will also move back into its old premises.
