Structure of Studentenwerk
Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau (Student Service Organisation Chemnitz-Zwickau) is a modern service provider covering different universities. We are a reliable partner for students of Chemnitz University of Technology and University of Applied Sciences Zwickau. While the universities’ responsibility lies in helping you to grow intellectually, we focus on helping you with your day-to-day life. We are a public institution, responsible for providing social, financial, cultural and health-related support to more than 15,000 students. We have around 160 employees working to provide balanced and affordable dining options in our canteens and cafeterias, offer some 2,800 inexpensive, attractive rooms in our student residences, and answer queries with regard to student finance. Each year we pay more than €30 million in funding to students under the Federal Education and Training Assistance Act (BAföG). We also support and finance students’ cultural activities, provide legal, social and psychological counselling services free of charge, offer a hardship fund for students in crisis situations, and have arranged a leisure time accident insurance policy to cover all of our students. The interests of disadvantaged students, students with children, students with disabilities and students from abroad are particularly important to us.
The wide range of services provided by Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau is financed through income from the canteens, cafeterias and residences, state grants and compulsory contributions from all Chemnitz and Zwickau students. These compulsory contributions are taken when you enrol at your university and are then passed on to us. Our contribution rules (PDF 57 kB) govern how these funds can be used.
The role of Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau is based on the Saxon Higher Education Act (“Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz”) and our Basic Regulations (PDF 43 kB) (“Grundordnung”). Two governing bodies are responsible for the activities of Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau: the Administrative Council (“Verwaltungsrat”) and the Management Board (“Geschäftsleitung”).
