Semester ticket for students of University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ)

Conditions of Transport, valid from September 2021

• 1. Area of validity

  The semester ticket for students of University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ) is composed of the VMS Semester ticket and the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony.

  VMS Semester ticket

  The semester ticket is valid on all public transport of the Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachen (VMS). Exceptions are the special means of transport: Augustusburg cable car and Fichtelbergbahn Cranzahl-Oberwiesenthal.

  The tariff and transport conditions of the Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen apply when traveling in the area of VMS. For journeys across the border of the transport associations, the corresponding rules apply up to the last stop or from the first stop on the territory of the VMS.

   

  SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony

  The semester ticket is valid for all railway companies operating in Saxony on the following products:

  (The ticket is valid until the last scheduled stop or from the first scheduled stop on the territory of the Free State of Saxony).
   

  • Deutsche Bahn AG (DB AG): S, RB, RE, IRE

  • Die Länderbahn GmbH: vogtlandbahn, trilex

  • Transdev Regio Ost GmbH: MRB

  • Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH: MRB

  • Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH: OE

  • Erfurter Bahn GmbH: EB, EBx

  • Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland GmbH: RE, RB

  • Döllnitzbahn GmbH

  
  The SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony is not valid on special rail-bound means of transport, with the exception of the Döllnitzbahn GmbH. The ticket is only valid for the 2nd class. The use of long-distance trains (e.g. ICE, IC/EC) is excluded.
  
  The ticket is valid until the last scheduled stop or from the first scheduled stop on the territory of the Free State of Saxony.

  For journeys outside the VMS area, the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony is valid from the last scheduled stop before the VMS border. Unless not stated otherwise in the tariff regulations, the respective transport conditions of the transport companies used, apply in their currently valid versions.

   

  Rides beyond the area of validity

  For journeys to/from destinations outside the area of validity of the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony, tickets are generally required in accordance with the respective transport conditions of the transport company used to/from the last stop within the area of validity of the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony.

  For journeys with a neighbouring country ticket within its area of validity or into the area of validity of the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony, tickets do not need to be purchased for the first or last scheduled stop within the area of validity.

  Adjacent country tickets in the sense of these regulations are:

  • Sachsen-Anhalt-Ticket
  • Thüringen-Ticket
  • Bayern-Ticket
  • Bayern-Ticket Nacht
  • Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket
  • Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket
  • Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket Nacht

  
  The SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony is valid on the route Zwickau - Werdau - Leipzig (KBS 530) within Thuringia only in transit between the stops Crimmitschau or Meerane and Regis-Breitingen. The same applies in Brandenburg on the route Hosena - Lauta (NI) - Hoyerswerda (KBS 228) between the stops Beilrode and Ruhland.

  All tickets for the connecting routes must be purchased at the latest at the last transfer station, but still within the area of validity of the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony before the start of the journey. Tickets for the connecting routes in accordance with the Deutsche Bahn AG Terms and Conditions of Transport can be purchased in advance at DB Travel Centres, DB agencies or travel agencies with a DB licence, DB machines with touchscreen display (not at the push button ticket machines) and as Online Tickets (for routes in Germany with minimum distance of 51 km). On trains in which on-board sales are permitted, the ticket must be purchased for onward travel within the area of validity of the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony. This requires active approaching of the train personnel with or immediately after the boarding of the train.
• 2. Group of beneficiaries and period of validity

  Group of beneficiaries

  Eligible are all students of University of Applied Science Zwickau, who are enrolled and liable to contribution at University of Applied Science Zwickau at the time of purchase of the semester ticket. Students who are exempt from paying the semester ticket fee on the basis of the Contribution Regulations of Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau are not considered eligible (see point 4.).

  The semester ticket Saxony is valid for one semester each for the following period:

  winter semester: 1.09. till 28.02./29.02.

  summer semester 1.03. till 31.08.
• 3. Issuing of the semester ticket and replacement

  The semester ticket is a valid student ID (chip card) with the semester ticket imprinted with "VMS STIK valid until ...". It is only valid as a ticket in conjunction with an official identity document with a photo.

  The semester ticket is not transferable.

  If the semester ticket is lost, the WHZ will issue a second copy of the student ID. Claims for damages by the transport companies for any duplicate due to incorrect information (e.g. double use) will be made directly to the students concerned.
• 4. Contribution to the semester ticket, Exemption & Reimbursement

  The fee for the semester ticket of 170.01 € is due for all students upon enrolment or re-enrolment in the respective semester of validity.

  Distance students, guest and subsidiary students, students at the university location Markneukirchen as well as severely disabled persons with valid identification (with supplement sheet and token coin) are exempt from the contribution for the semester ticket, if an identification card is issued without semester ticket imprint.

  In certain cases, there is a possibility for exemption or reimbursement of contributions for:

  1. students who can prove that they have been absent from the area covered by the semester ticket for at least 15 consecutive weeks during a semester for one of the following reasons:

  • compulsory study-related internship
  • compulsory study-related thesis
  • study at a different university
  • disease
  • leave of absence

   

  2. students who can prove that they already have a semester ticket from their home university for the same service area (Sachsenticket) and

  3. students who are exmatriculated in the first three months of the semester.

  Application for exemption / reimbursement of the Studentenwerks contribution and/or contribution to the semester ticket for students of University of Applied Science Zwickau

• 5. Further transport regulations (including passenger/bike transport)

  The SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony is not transferable and does not allow you to take people, things or animals with you.

  For the VMS semester ticket, the tariff regulations and transport conditions of the VMS apply. The VMS semester ticket is not transferable and allows you to bring your own children up to their 15th birthday.

  The internal regulations of the respective association apply regarding the transport of bicycles. In the case of inter-company journeys, the MRB does not charge for bicycle transport, with the exception of the blocking time in the VVO. No guarantee can be given that bicycles will be carried or taken along beyond the capacity limit of the trains. In this case, there is no entitlement to (partial) reimbursement of the SPNV Student Semester Ticket Saxony.
  
  Unauthorized changes to the entries in the student ID will make it invalid as a ticket; therefore the student is then treated as a passenger without a valid ticket. Unauthorized changes include cut off, erased, glued and overwritten ID cards.
  
  Transportation is only provided in the services published in the timetable and only within the capacity limits.

  The right to exchange and/or refund of the ticket is excluded.
• 6. Cancellation and reimbursement of fares for existing season ticket contracts with railway companies

  If a student has a personal subscribed ticket of one of the railway companies involved in the contract (see point 1), he or she can cancel this subscription immediately with the respective company (at the latest by the 10th calendar day of the second month of the semester) before using the semester ticket. Purchased annual tickets will be refunded by the respective transport companies on a pro-rata basis according to their validity.

  The partial amount is only refunded retroactively from the 1st of the first month of the regarding semester in case of personal reduced season tickets. In these cases, the railway transport companies will waive the levying of the difference between the subscription price and the price of a monthly/annual ticket.

For the winter semester 2023/2024 you have the possibility to upgrade your WHZ Semesterticket to the Deutschland-Ticket. If you book correctly, the Deutschlandticket will only cost you €17.32 per month.

Please note the following:

• The application for the ticket must be made by the 10th calendar day before the start of the contract. If you would like to use the Deutschlandticket at the discounted price from September 1, 2023, you must have completed all the necessary steps (incl. receipt of the certificate "Proof of semester ticket" from the SVZ) by August 10, 2023 at the latest. If you want to upgrade the ticket later, please read the above mentioned instructions for new customers. Deadlines must also be met for later bookings. The ticket cannot be booked as an upgrade from one day to the next.
• Attention: deadlines must also be observed for cancellation, as this is a subscription!
• For the ticket purchase you need the certificate of the WHZ about the payment of the contribution to the semester ticket in the winter semester 2023/2024 with the shown amount of 190,08 €.
• The certificate "Nachweis Semesterticket.pdf" can be found in the WHZ student portal. Log in with your university login and download the file "Nachweis Semesterticket.pdf" under "Bescheinigungen". You will need this file to provide proof to the Städtische Verkehrsbetriebe Zwickau GmbH (SVZ). Please check your certificate for correctness before you send it!
• It is absolutely necessary to indicate or select the SVZ (Städtische Verkehrsbetriebe Zwickau GmbH) when booking the ticket, otherwise a reduction of the Deutschland-Ticket to 17,32 € per month (or a later refund of the difference) is not possible!
• If you have already purchased a WHZ upgrade in the summer semester 2023 and continue your subscription, you only need to send the certificate "Nachweis Semesterticket.pdf" for the winter semester 2023/2024 to the SVZ to continue the upgrade. For all info, please refer to the above instructions for existing customers.
• A possible (proportional) refund of the semester ticket fee according to the contribution regulations of the Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau is only possible if you have not taken out a WHZ Deutschlandticket upgrade with the SVZ.
