As already announced on 02.12.2020, the Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau must take a comprehensive package of measures to maintain the economic viability of the canteens and cafeterias in January 2021, in order to continue to cover costs in the future and to avoid an impending shortfall in the area of university catering. The main reason is the decrease in contributing students by more than 1000 since the winter semester 2018/2019, combined with collectively bargained wage increases and step increases in staffing, as well as rising food purchase prices and operating costs. For these and other reasons, we have decided together with the student members of our Administrative Board and the Chairman of the Administrative Board to increase the university catering fee by 6.80 euros from the summer semester 2021. In parallel, we will increase the staff and guest prices in the dining halls and cafeterias by approximately €0.20 to €0.30 per meal from January 1, 2021. This means that all user groups will contribute equally to the increased financing costs.
