The course has been set. Following the signing of the contract for the design and construction services for the new dormitory in Makarenkostraße in Zwickau, the planning phase is now beginning. We expect construction to begin before the end of October and the building to be completed by the end of 2022. A modern dormitory with 125 individual apartments, five of them barrier-free, will be built for the students of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences. The rooms, which measure around 20 m², are equipped with a bathroom and kitchen and are fully furnished. The flexibly usable "community lounge" on the first floor is an inviting place to socialize. A fitness room, a laundry room and a separately accessible student club round out the building's offerings. The spacious outdoor area with its landscaped open spaces is shielded from the street and has 130 bicycle and 25 car parking spaces.

The Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Union is investing around 12 million euros in the building. Around half of this is being provided in the form of grants from the state of Saxony. (This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget passed by the Saxon state parliament).
